He holds a degree in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Patras. He is a Director of Research at the Institute of Biosciences and Applications (IBA) of NCSR “Demokritos”, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis and Rare Disease Genetics. His research interests include: (1) Molecular profile analysis of neoplastic tumors for the development and validation of cancer markers, (2) Identification and evaluation of cellular targets for cancer therapy, (3) Pathogenicity analysis and molecular diagnosis of human genetic diseases. He has published 56 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals (average impact index 3,755; total number of hetero-citations 1,266; h-factor 19), 5 articles as book chapters, 112 papers in conference proceedings. His work has been supported by public and private funding (18 research projects), and has been a reviewer of Greek and international research proposals for funding, a certifier of research projects of the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Innovation, and a reviewer of scientific articles in more than 20 international scientific journals. He has supervised a significant number of research associates (>60) at the undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral levels. He has taught at all levels of public education (high school, undergraduate, graduate), and also teaches the course “Introduction to Molecular Biology” at the American College of Greece (Deree, 2007-present). Finally, he has been the Head of the Laboratory for the Provision of Specialized Scientific Services “Molecular Diagnosis of Genetic Diseases” of NCSR “Demokritos” (2010-2020), member of the Board of Directors and Scientific Committees in Associations of Patients Association of Rare Diseases, 2003-2017), has written articles on this subject in the Greek press, and has participated in the preparation of the Greek National Action Plan for Rare Diseases 2008-2012.
