
Within the framework of its mission and operations, NCSR “Demokritos” explicitly commits to promoting gender equality and combating all forms of discrimination across all levels of its activities. The Centre aims to foster an environment in which equal opportunities, respect for equitable participation and inclusion constitute fundamental principles, thereby strengthening both scientific excellence and social responsibility. This commitment is implemented through specific policies, practices and actions that collectively form the Gender Equality Plan.
The Gender Equality Plan of NCSR “Demokritos” for the period 2026–2028 focuses on the following priority areas:
- Work–life balance and organizational culture
- Gender equality in leadership and decision-making
- Gender equality in recruitment and career progression
- Integration of the gender dimension in research, innovation, and education
- Measures against gender-based violence, including sexual harassment
- Equality and Inclusion within the Organization
Overall responsibility for the design, implementation and monitoring of the Centre’s action plan lies with the Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee (GEADC) of NCSR “Demokritos”. The GEADC serves as an advisory body to the organization and its governing authorities, in accordance with Article 58 of Law 5019/2023. Its mission is to promote gender equality and to combat all forms of discrimination or exclusion based on gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, health status or disability, age, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic, across all levels of operation and throughout all procedures and activities of the Centre.
Since 2025, the implementation of the action plan has also been supported by the Equality and Inclusion Unit, which operates under the Independent Office for the Working Environment of NCSR “Demokritos”.
