Dr. Anastasios Kourtis is the Deputy Director of IIT. He received his BS degree in Physics in 1978 and his PhD degree in Telecommunications in 1984, from the University of Athens. Since 1986 he is a member of the research staff in the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the NCSR Demokritos, where he is currently Research Director. His technical and research activities have been in the area of wired and wireless broadband network infrastructures, multimedia applications, Quality of Service, data encryption techniques, network management and network virtualisation.
He is the author or co-author of more than 100 publications He has led or participated in 35 research projects and has attracted external funding of about 14 M€. He has also active participation in standardization bodies, like ETSI, IETF-NFV-RG, IMT-2020 and MEF. He participates in the pan-European effort for the development and promotion of 5G technology, in Europe and worldwide, by the participation of the Media Networks Lab. in 9 EU funded projects (SESAME, SONATA, CHARISMA, 5G-ESSENCE, 5G-TANGO, MATILDA, IORL, 5G-MEDIA and 5GENESIS), in the funding framework 5G-PPP (Private, Public Partnership) of H2020.
