The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) of the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” is one of Greece’s leading research institutes in advanced materials, nanotechnology, semiconductor technologies, integrated photonics and emerging technologies. Established through the merger of the former Institutes of Materials Science, Microelectronics and Physical Chemistry, INN combines highly specialized scientific expertise with state-of-the-art research infrastructures to support multidisciplinary research and innovation with strong scientific, technological and industrial impact.
INN conducts high-level basic and applied research in key enabling technologies (KETs), contributing to advances in nanotechnology, micro- and nanoelectronics, photonics, advanced materials, biotechnology, surface engineering and sustainable technological solutions for clean water and the environment. Through strong collaborations with academia, industry and SMEs, the Institute actively promotes innovation transfer and the development of cutting-edge applications for the market and society.
The Institute’s activities are organized around five major thematic areas:
i) Chemical Sciences for Nanostructures and Biological Applications,
ii) Cultural Heritage and advanced analytical technologies,
iii) Magnetism and Superconductivity: Advanced Materials and Applications,
iv) Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials, and
v) Nanoelectronics, Photonics and Microsystems.
INN hosts advanced research infrastructures and cleanroom facilities, supporting innovative materials, devices and integrated systems addressing societal challenges in digital technologies, energy, environment, health, agrifood, cultural heritage and fundamental research.
