Dr. Garyfalia Drosopoulou is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Biosciences and Applications, National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” She has studied Cell Biology at University College, London, UK and holds a PhD in Developmental Biology from the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, University College, London, UK. Her research interests focus on the mechanisms involved in the pathology of chronic age-related diseases, i.e. diseases that occur mainly in middle age and may have a genetic predisposition. In particular, investigating the role of specific genes in the onset and progression of diabetic nephropathy, which is associated with diabetes mellitus, and in the use of stem cells as a potential therapeutic approach. She supervises the undergraduate and postgraduate students and is a member of evaluation committees for doctoral candidates, as well as a member of evaluation committees for research projects. She has published in many peer-reviewed scientific journals and has participated in more than 80 international and Greek scientific conferences.
