Contribution of NCSR "DEMOKRITOS"
The contribution of N.C.S.R. "D" to the Greek society is confined in such sectors as:
  • The international recognition of the Greek research activity (Scientific Output and Impact: Europe's leading role in world science), where the N.C.S.R. "D" possesses a very high position in the number of publications (1601) with relevant citations (4509) and impact factor 0.90, which constitutes the highest percentage in the Physics sector (period 1993-1999)
  • The development and conveyance of technology both in the public and private sectors.
  • The support of cultural inheritance.
  • The founding of the first post-doctorate program in Greece based on international standards.
  • The feeding of Greek Universities and Technological Institutions with high class scientists-professors.
Nowadays, based on the international collaborations developed equally with big research centers and universities of developed countries, the N.C.S.R gazes at the future with optimism. At the same time, it provides services and know-how to the developing countries. In addition, the evaluation of the Centre by international committees which took place in 2001 under the aegis of GGET, distinguished most of the Institutes of N.C.S.R. "D", as Centers of Excellence, with a financing of 2,1 million Euros from the G.S.R.T program "First Prize".
