Ancient Mediterranean Landscape Reconstruction
NCSR “Demokritos” Aghia Paraskevi (Athens), 29-31 October 2013

 

A three-day geoarchaeological training course organized in the framework of the NARNIA project will take place in the Section of Materials Science, at the National Center of Scientific Research (N.C.S.R.) “Demokritos”/Athens, Greece, from 29 to 31 October 2013.

The Mediterranean landscapes provide unique opportunities of interdisciplinary studies for better understanding of their diachronic evolution and reconstruction. The course aims at bringing together students, young scientists and experienced scholars for a fruitful exchange of ideas related to the whole issue. The trainees will have the opportunity to be familiarized on the mostly employed methodologies and techniques for paleoenvironmental reconstruction, such as micromorphology, archaeomagnetism, stable isotopes analysis etc, and to attend relevant case stories of ancient landscape reconstruction, explained by specialists on the topics. The third day of the training event will be devoted to a guided excursion/field-exercise, at a maritime site with geoarchaeological significance.

Open to the public: The course is open to interested individuals outside the network, but NARNIA fellows have priority

Fee: No fee. The coffee breaks and the excursion are covered by the NARNIA project and are offered for free to all participants. Travel costs, lunches and accommodation expenses are not provided by the organisers or the project.
