Summary The NANOSOURCE project aims at mutual technology transfer between two academic research laboratories (National Technical University of Athens and National Centre of Scientific Research “Demokritos”) and an industrial partner (MANTIS Deposition Ltd). A main scientific goal of the project is the formation of 2-dimensional and 1-D of semiconducting and metallic nanoparticles with controlled size and density. The accomplishment of this target will enable the fabrication of nanoparticle based chemical sensors and electronic/optoelectronic devices for charge storage or light emission beyond the state-of-the-art. The technical and research objectives include: a) development of a process for controlling the size and inter-particle distance of 2-dimensional nanocrystal systems, b) development of techniques for the formation of 1-D arrays of nanoparticles using electrodynamic self-assembly, c) characterization of the nanoparticle systems to be fabricated by TEM, Scanning Probe Microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy and Photoluminescence and d) fabrication and demonstration of devices in the areas of sensors and electronic/optoelectronic devices using the know-how on controlled nanoparticles deposition.
