“Unveiling the fundamental laws of Nature”
An interesting lecture by Prof. Ignatios Antoniadis at the NCSR “Demokritos”


On Friday, December 14th 2012, Prof. Ignatios Antoniadis, Director of the Theoretical Physics Division of CERN in Geneva and Professor at Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, visited the NCSR “Demokritos” and gave a lecture under the title: “Unveiling the fundamental laws of Nature”.

As part of the lecture series “Research, Innovation and Development”, organized by the NCSR “Demokritos”, Prof. Antoniadis, spoke about the field of Particle Physics that enters a new era after the recent discovery of a new particle in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, so far compatible with the long awaited Higgs boson of the Standard Model of electroweak and strong interactions.

Moreover, Prof. Antoniadis, discussed the implications of these results for physics beyond the Standard Model, suggesting possible new discoveries in the long and ambitious program of LHC towards a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of Nature and the evolution of our Universe. Prof. Antoniadis, has also referred to his personal observations about the mass of Higgs boson and the role that he played in the discovery.

The award-winning Greek physicist, one of the most acknowledged experts in String Theory worldwide, among other distinctions, received the 2008 European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Award of the EU.
