The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of NCSR “Demokritos” co-organises and hosts the Study abroad program of the Computer Science & Engineering Dept of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) (http://studyabroad.iit.demokritos.gr/).

This is a six weeks program (May 16 - June 29, 2011), for undergraduate and graduate students of UTA, focusing on applications of computer and information technologies in interdisciplinary projects for marine and terrestrial wildlife conservation.

Following an orientation week at UTA (May 16-20), the students will spend one week at NCSR “Demokritos” (May 23-27) attending courses and participating in Labs on data bases, statistics, data mining, machine learning, data visualization, use of marine and terrestrial data in experiments.

The students will then stay for 4 weeks in the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, Samos Island (http://www.archipelago.gr/), where they will be involved in team projects collecting and analysing real marine data exploiting different computational methods of analysis and maintaining web-based records as the project evolves (http://studyabroad.iit.demokritos.gr/projects). Returning at NCSR the students will have the chance to present their project results and discuss with their instructors.
