The National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSR “Demokritos”) is situated in Agia Paraskevi, a very pleasant suburb at the foot of mount Hymettus, 10 km from the center of Athens and just 10 minutes from Eleftherios Venizelos Airport.

It is the largest multidisciplinary Research Center in Greece, focusing on basic and applied research in the Natural Sciences, staffed by highly qualified personnel and equipped with the most modern laboratories on a campus of about 600.000 m2

NCSR “Demokritos” also has a fully equipped Congress Center comprising a complex of rooms, lounges, exhibition spaces, and auditoriums. The Congress Center is open to the scientific and academic communities, to groups from the arts and culture, as well as to the general public, private companies, public services, public sector organizations, scientific and cultural institutions, and international organizations and associations, for scientific, technological and cultural events.

The Congress Center provides hospitality facilities, a spacious parking area, ATMs for banking transactions, as well as specialised security personnel.

Main Auditorium

The Main Auditorium, at the heart of the complex, is an impressive modern space with excellent acoustics, a wide stage, full AV infrastructure, and 418 seats with individual fold-away tables. Audience microphone and simultaneous interpretation systems are available, as well as an internet live-streaming system. A reception area of 280 m2, which adjoins the Main Auditorium, can be subdivided and used as a break-out area and/or poster sessions, or separately for small conferences, meetings for up to 20 people, or as an exhibition area. It is equipped for the use of PCs and video teleconferencing.

Supplementary Room

A smaller, multi-purpose Supplementary Room for up to 100 people, situated next to the reception area, is ideal for meetings, lectures and presentations. It can also be used as a space for secretarial and support services. Room layout may be configured in a U-shape arrangement for meetings or in a classroom style for video projections. The room is fully electronically equipped and can be used in combination with the Main Auditorium or independently.

Other Facilities

In addition to the Main Auditorium and Supplementary Room described above, there are a further five lecture rooms at the NCSR “Demokritos” Congress Center. The auditorium in the Materials Science Department seats 80. The rooms in the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications and the Physical Chemistry Department have seating capacities of 40 and 80, respectively. Finally, the rooms in the Radioisotopes & Radiodiagnostic Products as well as in the Nuclear Technology & Radiation Protection Departments can each accommodate up to 25 people.

These rooms can be used separately or may be combined to host a larger event.
